Not sure what tire size you need? Understanding the numbers and letters on your tire sidewall makes it easy to find the perfect fit for your vehicle.
Tire Width
The first three-digit number (e.g., 245) represents the tire's width in millimeters, measured from sidewall to sidewall. A wider tire typically offers more road contact and grip.
Aspect Ratio
The two-digit number after the slash (e.g., 60) is the aspect ratio — the sidewall height as a percentage of the tire's width. A lower number means a shorter sidewall and sportier handling.
Radial Construction
The letter R stands for Radial, indicating the internal ply cords run radially across the tire. Nearly all modern passenger and light-truck tires use radial construction for a smoother, safer ride.
Wheel Diameter
The final number (e.g., 18) is the wheel diameter in inches — the size of the rim the tire is designed to fit. Always match this number exactly to your wheel size.
Load Index
The load index (e.g., 105) is a numerical code indicating the maximum weight each tire can safely support. Always use a tire with a load index equal to or greater than your vehicle's requirement.
Speed Rating
The letter following the load index (e.g., H) is the speed rating — the maximum sustained speed the tire is designed to handle. Common ratings include S (112 mph), H (130 mph), and V (149 mph).
